Larry’s Farewell Tour

Goodbyes are hard whether it be a beloved pet, replacing a Tivo or putting on your black Nikes and graduating to a comet after your cult initiation. Unless you use it to promote a comedy show as a marketing gimmick to sell tickets! We are not above that! But Monkey’s Uncle will be there for you during your grief.

The first stage of grieving a loss is denial (Larry who?) followed by anger (keying Larry’s car,) then bargaining (Hey Mike, wanna come back to Monkey’s Uncle?,) then depression (cutting Larry’s name on your arm while listening to Rent which is Larry’s favorite,) then acceptance (Larry really is gay.)

Larry “Punmeister” Epstein got all Shelley Long on us and got a job offer he couldn’t refuse so he is packing up family and house to move to the East Coast in August. Our July 28 show is dedicated to him. We’re planning a show on scale of our anniversary shows for you. Lots of Larry’s favorite games, favorite characters and more puns than you can stick at a stick in a sticky situation. Larry joke: Ever since my friend had all the digits amputated from his feet, I find him very annoying. I think I might be lack-toes intolerant.

Best of Mixes 2009

We are running around getting ready for the big 8 Year Anniversary show on November 11. One of the fun things we like to do is put together a music mix filled with what we think are the best songs from the 5 show mixes we’ve done during the year. Well, here is this year’s. We hope you like it and we hope to see you at the show.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Larry’s Shirt

monkeygayWe love Larry, but the things Larry loves make him easily susceptible to ribbing and many, many, many inside jokes. He loves his wife. He loves his daughters. But he also loves the musical theater. Loves it. Adores it. Covets it even — to the point of listening to the show tunes channel on his satellite radio on outings with the other Monkeys. Much to their chagrin.

It’s so bad that he simply has got to live 5 minutes from Downtown Gay to explain this.

Anyway, if you, too, love the musical, this shirt will ensure your masculinity is kept intact with the added bonus of you finally being accepted into society.

Check out the MU store at http://www.cafepress.com/mucomedy. Make sure to check out Shari’s shirt there, too.

Shari’s Shirt

MonkeysMathYou know you want it. Here is what we are hoping to be a line of personal Monkey t-shirts. This one Shari’s. She says this whenever we have to count or add or subtract or think and it always makes us laugh. You can get this on our store by clicking the store button above. There are several types of t-shirts to choose from, but if you would like it on something else, let us know and we’ll put it on another thing or something.

Enjoy!

We’re Moving!

newsflash

Monkey’s Uncle has now joined the Avenue Theater family of performers and we couldn’t be more excited. Starting on September 9th, we will be performing on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

This move will allow us to perform in a theater-style space again with a group that is Denver renowned for comedy — Chicken Lips. Bob & Dave have been doing this for years and we are honored they have opened their arms to the Monkeys. Tickets will now be $10; however, you can park for free around the theater area and while we encourage you to partake of the concession stand, there is no minimum to do so. Yes, they serve alcohol.

With that said, we cordially invite you to our Avenue Debutante Ball. No need to dress up for the occasion unless you just happen to have a tux or bustier laying about. We’ll be dressed up in our new casual shirts though, so there’s a reason to attend.

Mark you calendar with a recurring event: Second Wednesday of the month, 7:30 PM, Avenue Theater, 417 E. 17th Avenue (between Logan & Penn), Denver. All part of the Wednesday Night Comedy Series that includes Mile Hi-Larity, The Rodents Of Unusual Size and The Wigs. Each show is only $10 a person.

July Hotness

Monkey's Uncle Newsletter

Oh, boy, have we got a line up for you. Starting this Wednesday, you can support Smile Train through a series of three shows (listed below). The Monkeys will be helping out on Wednesday. The purpose is to raise money for surgeries for kids with cleft palates and lips in an attempt to give them a more normal life. It’s a great cause and Heather of the Rodents of Unusual Size (and her lovely assistant, Steve) have put together three whiz-bang shows. You will also find a donation link below if you can’t attend.

And speaking of Heather, she will be joining us for your regularly scheduled show on July 20. Yes, that means we’ve moved back to the third Monday of the month — please make a note of it. Heather is absolutely hilarious and will be using us as a cathartic measure after planning three benefit shows. The show starts at 7:30 as usual.

We started a Facebook page, too! Be a fan!
